PM Instructs Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Collaborate with Chinese Embassy for Cambodian Consulate General in Henan Province

Prime Minister Hun Manet has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to work alongside the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to establish a Cambodian Consulate General in Henan Province. This initiative is seen as a strategic effort to enhance Cambodia's presence and foster deeper ties in a region recognized for its importance and potential advantages. The announcement was made public following the Plenary Meeting of the Council of Ministers on October 25, 2024.

The Prime Minister's instructions emphasize not only the growing relationship between Cambodia and China but also the recognition of Henan Province as a crucial location for diplomatic engagement. By establishing a consulate in this province, Cambodia aims to facilitate trade, cultural exchange, and cooperation in various sectors, thereby strengthening bilateral relations.

In his remarks during a celebration of accomplishments under a Chinese-assisted project designed to improve school environments and provide educational resources in Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated the enduring friendship between Cambodia and China. Held at Samdech Hun Sen Peam Chi Kang High School in Kang Meas, Kampong Cham province, the event highlighted the impact of Chinese support on Cambodia's educational landscape.

The Prime Minister noted that the relationship between the two nations spans over 2,000 years, underscoring a deep-rooted historical connection that has been nurtured through mutual respect and collaboration. He described this long-standing friendship as a valuable legacy that both peoples cherish.

As Cambodia advances its diplomatic mission by establishing a consulate in Henan, the potential for increased collaboration in various fields, including trade, education, and culture, looks promising. This strategic step not only marks a new chapter in Cambodia-China relations but also signifies Cambodia's intent to engage more effectively in the regional arena, leveraging partnerships that have stood the test of time.

This development aligns with Cambodia's broader foreign policy objectives of expanding its international presence and optimizing its relationships with key partners, particularly within Asia. As the Cambodian government takes these steps forward, the focus remains on fostering growth, development, and mutual benefits for both Cambodia and China.
